Many people feel that a winning smile serves them will in social functions. Yet a tooth that has been dulled by stains, chips or unsightly old fillings can often leave you wanting to explore your restoration options. Sometimes this can be as simple as having Houston smiledocs restore one of more unappealing teeth with a porcelain or porcelain fused to metal crown.

A crown essentially replaces the enamel layer with an artificial material. Most of the time a crown on a tooth in your smile will call for using porcelain or porcelain fused to metal.

A crown basically replaces the entire enamel layer of a tooth. The material they suggests for your crown will be dictated by the tooth’s primary function and its prevalence in your smile.

The process starts by removing all of the tooth enamel with a drill. This forms an abutment out of the core structures of the tooth. Later this abutment will serve as the anchor for your permanent crown.

Dr. Randall L. Farmer & Isabelle M. Farmer will then make a detailed impression of the abutment and all other relevant teeth. A temporary crown is placed over the abutment and the impression is sent off to a dental lab where your crown will be made.

When your crown is ready, they will call you to set up a brief second appointment. During this appointment, they will remove the temporary crown and cement your permanent crown in place.
