Are you aware of what to do in the event of an oral accident or emergency? Have you ever made plans for caring for your oral health should the worst occur to your precious pearly whites? If not, there is no better time to begin than now to ensure your teeth have the highest chance of recovery in the event of an oral accident.
One of the most frequent forms of oral emergencies occurs during catastrophic tooth loss. If you have a tooth knocked out, your jaw may also be damaged. Check to make sure your jaw isn’t broken and make sure to conceal any bleeding wounds with gauze until the bleeding stops. Astoundingly enough, some teeth can be saved and reinserted later, so place any teeth that may have been knocked out into a moist solution to prevent them from drying out.
Another frequent oral emergency that often occurs is when an object becomes stuck in your mouth. This can be caused by something you eat or a loose physical item. If this accident arises, do not attempt to pry the item out, especially if it is stuck between your teeth. Also, avoid using sharp objects to dislodge the item. Rather, use some type of interdental cleaner such as dental floss or a water flosser. If you still cannot retrieve the object, visit your dentist.
